Squire Pass

Boulder River Wilderness

June 2002

Squire Pass is located about forty miles or so north-northeast of Seattle, just outside the town of Darrington. This day hike follows the Squire Creek drainage on the east side of Three Fingers and Whitehorse mountains.

We visited in mid-June, on a drizzly day with occasional breaks in the clouds. To me, the most interesting point of this hike on this day was the giant slide off of Jumbo Mountain and the resulting debris field. Huge logs and boulders strewn everywhere. The area near the pass appeared to be interesting, with promises of views on a clearer day. We stopped short of the pass due to the rain and a steep snowfield we were unequipped to cross safely.
