Skyline Divide

Mount Baker Wilderness

Most recent: Sep 2005

Mount Baker is a 10,778-foot volcano near the Canadian border in Washington State. This area is about a two and a half hour drive north of Seattle.

Skyline Divide is an wide-open view hike along a ridge just north of Mount Baker, about 13 miles outside of the tiny town of Glacier WA.

The hike climbs through a pleasant forest for about two miles before breaking out into an open ridge. The initial views of glacierclad Mount Baker and massive Mount Shuksan are stunning. Then the eye scans the eastern horizan to a sea of peaks of the northern most of the North Cascades, peaks along the US - Canadian border.

The trail continues up and over several knolls passing a few nice looking campsites (though I'd imagine they are quite crowded on summer weekends - this hike is not very difficult to access).

Most of these photos are from a trip taken on an early September afternoon.
