Buck Creek
Glacier Peak Wilderness
1986
Buck Creek is yet another weekender taken many years ago. This hike was taken out of the ‘town’ of Trinity Washington. Really just a piece of private property with several buildings attached.
Not a lot to remember here. Mostly this was memorable for the friends on it. I do remember having a good time; this was one of several hikes taken together that summer. Also, the great blueberry pancakes made on the last morning in --- a rarity for me while backpacking. On most trips my packed breakfasts consist of oatmeal and a mixture of dry milk and water. Not every group cares for this approach, but with this group of long lost friends we would share common cooking and clean-up duties, alternating with each prepared meal. What it meant to me was many good meals (…no one wanted to let the others down…) and only one chore per meal (albeit a big one); either cooking for several people, or cleaning up afterwards for the crew.
Buck Creek was o.k. --- and I remember that was it. Perhaps too many other viewworthy hikes have spoiled me. Or maybe my memories of Buck Creek have faded too much. And the few photos remaining of the trip don’t do it justice. The guidebooks speak well of it.
Mostly what I recall is hiking up long creek drainage, and having a view of Glacier Peak at Buck Pass. A much more memorable hike to me in the same area was Spider Meadows, taken a year later.
